Cornish Boys’ Brigade Group calls on local businesses to help raise money through recycling initiative.

01 Aug 2008

Story Picture Cornish Boys’ Brigade, 2nd Camborne Company is calling on local businesses to help them raise more money to send football kit and B.B. Uniform to a fellow Boys’ Brigade company in Zambia through the B.B. Recycling Appeal with Redeem Plc.

Since March this year, members of the Camborne Company have been encouraging friends, family and local businesses to donate their old mobile phones and printer cartridges to help them raise money. The group of 30 boys, aged five to sixteen are aiming to raise enough money to send over a number of parcels containing football kit, uniforms and badges to fellow B.B. companies on the other side of the globe.

The boys have been collecting mobile phones and cartridges from local businesses and asking parents and friends to hand in any unwanted mobile phones. Once the disused mobiles and printer cartridges are handed in, Redeem then converts the disused items into monies that help fund the brigade’s effort.

The Company’s Captain, Malcolm Godolphin said: “This recycling initiative has been a fantastic tool for us to raise more cash for the Boys’ Brigade in Zambia. A lot of people don’t realise just how much money these old assets are worth that are just laying around their homes and donating them really can make a huge difference. The parcels that we will be able to donate through the money raised from the recycling scheme will be greatly welcomed as there is a B.B, Company in Zambia which has 100 members but only have one football between them.”

Malcolm adds: “As well as helping us raise money, the recycling scheme that Redeem runs for youth groups is also a great way to teach youngsters about the importance of disposing of such items in an environmentally friendly way whilst educating them on citizenship and growing their awareness of the world around us.”

Jamie Rae, chief executive of Redeem, commented: “The Boys’ Brigade Appeal is a worthwhile and rewarding fundraising and recycling programme for B.B. Companies across the UK. Groups are able to earn cash for every reusable mobile phone, PDA and empty printer cartridge recycled whilst saving lots of toxic waste from going to landfill and damaging the environment. The more that groups are able to collect, the more cash they can raise for great causes such as this one.”
